@janssonsr, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your OfficeJet Pro 6978!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If the automatic document feeder (ADF) on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 isn't working despite trying the recommended troubleshooting steps, here are some additional checks and solutions:
1. Check for Paper Jams
- Open the ADF cover and check for any small paper fragments or dust.
- Remove any stuck paper and clean the rollers gently with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
2. Reset the Printer
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it's still turned on.
- Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Test the ADF again.
3. Verify ADF Settings
- Ensure you are selecting the "Document Feeder" option instead of the "Flatbed Scanner" in the scan settings.
- Check if the ADF option is enabled in the HP Smart app or printer software.
4. Check for Firmware Updates
- Go to HP Support and check if a firmware update is available.
- Download and install the latest firmware for your printer.
5. Try a Different Scan Method
- Use the HP Scan software on your computer instead of the printer panel to initiate a scan from the ADF.
- Open HP Smart > Scan > Select ADF > Start Scan.
6. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’ website.
- Run it to diagnose and automatically fix scanning issues.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
