macOS 12.0 Monterey

Hi--- when I try to print from my Officejet Pro 9015e, it spits out a bunch of paper and then jams.  I've cleaned all the rollers on the bottom and top of the printer, and cleaned the printer heads.  I think the problem is a software issue.  Another discussion on this site recommended a certain generic HP printer driver.  That driver would not install on my computer because it's not compatible with macOS 12 Monterey.  Is there a generic HP printer driver compatible with macOS 12 Monterey that would work?  Or is there anything else I can do?  Am at my wits end.

Hi @pacific51,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds like you're experiencing paper handling issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e, which could indeed be software-related if cleaning the hardware hasn't resolved the problem. If the recommended generic HP driver isn't compatible with macOS 12 Monterey, here are some steps and options to help you find a compatible driver:

Update the Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can do this via the HP Smart app or directly from the printer's settings menu.
  • You may check this link for firmware updates.

Use the Built-in AirPrint Driver:

  • AirPrint is Apple's built-in printing technology and works with most modern HP printers without needing specific drivers. It should work well with macOS 12 Monterey.
  • To set your printer to use AirPrint:
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Remove the existing printer by selecting it and clicking the minus (-) button.
    • Click the plus (+) button to add a new printer.
    • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e from the list of available printers.
    • In the Use drop-down menu, select AirPrint instead of the HP driver, then click Add.

Download HP Easy Start:

  • HP Easy Start is a guided driver and software installation utility that may help set up the correct driver for your OfficeJet Pro 9015e on macOS 12 Monterey:
    • Download HP Easy Start from the HP Support website.
    • Run HP Easy Start and follow the prompts to install the latest compatible drivers and software.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @pacific51 ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Install HP Smart App:

  • The HP Smart app can also manage printing tasks and help with driver setup on macOS:
    • Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
    • Open the app and add your printer, then follow the setup instructions.

Try Generic PostScript or PCL Drivers:

  • While HP doesn't officially provide a "generic" driver that works for all their printers, macOS does include Generic PostScript and PCL drivers that you can try:
    • When adding the printer (through Printers & Scanners), select your printer from the list.
    • Choose Select Software... from the Use drop-down menu.
    • You can select a Generic PostScript Printer or Generic PCL Printer driver from the list.

Reset Printing System:

  • If the issue persists, try resetting the printing system:
    • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system….
    • Confirm the reset, then re-add your printer using the steps above.

Check for macOS Updates:

  • Make sure your macOS is up to date with the latest version of Monterey, as updates often include compatibility fixes for printers.

More Tips:

  • Test Printing from Different Applications: Sometimes the problem may be specific to certain applications. Try printing from a different app (like Preview, Safari, or Word) to see if the issue persists.
  • Check Printer Queue: If there are stuck jobs in the queue, clear them out by going to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, selecting your printer, and clicking Open Print Queue….

If none of these steps resolve the problem, it might be best to contact HP phone Support directly for further assistance,

Hope this helps!
