Hi @Bill11091946,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP Photosmart D110 is an older printer model, and its drivers may not be fully compatible with macOS Sonoma (14.6.1) without additional adjustments. Here are steps to help you get the scanner functionality working:
1. Check for Drivers HP Photosmart e-All-in-One Printer - D110a Software and ...
- Visit the HP Support website and search for the HP Photosmart D110.
- Download and install any drivers or software available for macOS Sonoma. If Sonoma-specific drivers are unavailable, try drivers for older macOS versions as they might still work.
2. Install HP Easy Start
- Download HP Easy Start for macOS. This tool automatically detects the printer and installs the necessary drivers and software.
3. Check Built-In macOS Scanning Support
macOS often includes native printer and scanner support:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Select the HP Photosmart D110, then click Scan > Open Scanner.
- If the scanner opens, try scanning directly from here.
4. Install HP Smart App
- Install the HP Smart App from the HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
- This app offers both scanning and printing features and often works even if the older drivers are unsupported.
5. Use Apple AirPrint (If Supported)
- AirPrint is macOS's built-in printing and scanning protocol.
- If your printer supports AirPrint, ensure it’s enabled. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, remove the existing printer, and re-add it as an AirPrint printer.
6. Ensure Printer Firmware is Up-to-Date
- Check for any available firmware updates for your printer. Firmware updates can improve compatibility with modern systems.
- Use HP Utility or the printer's settings panel to check and apply updates.
7. Reset Printing System (If Necessary)
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control + click) on the printer list and select Reset printing system.
- Re-add the HP Photosmart D110 and test scanning again.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
