Hi @Perri4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 fails to pull photo paper but prints fine on regular paper, it typically indicates an issue with paper settings or paper handling. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Check Paper Type and Size Settings

Paper Size and Type Settings:

  • On your printer’s control panel, go to Settings or Setup > Paper Handling.
  • Ensure the paper size is set to "Letter" and the paper type is set to "Photo Paper" or the closest option available.

Printer Driver Settings:

  • On your computer, open the print dialog box from the application you’re printing from.
  • Select the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 and go to Properties or Preferences.
  • Set the paper size to "Letter" and the paper type to "Photo Paper".

2. Load Photo Paper Correctly

Paper Tray Adjustment:

  • Remove all paper from the input tray.
  • Adjust the paper width guides to the exact width of the photo paper.
  • Load the photo paper with the print side facing down. Ensure it is centered and fits snugly in the tray.

Avoid Overloading:

  • Do not overload the tray. Load a few sheets (3-5) of photo paper at a time.

3. Clean and Inspect the Paper Path

Clean the Rollers:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the access door and gently clean the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow the rollers to dry completely before turning the printer back on.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no small pieces of paper or other debris obstructing the paper path.

4. Firmware and Driver Updates

Update Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website and check for any firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.
  • Download and install any available updates.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer.
  • Download and install the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

5. Reset the Printer

  1. Perform a Power Reset:
    • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
    • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
    • Turn on the printer and try printing again.

6. Use HP Photo Paper

  1. Try Different Paper:
    • If possible, try using HP-branded photo paper. Some printers have trouble feeding certain types or brands of paper.
    • Ensure the paper you are using is within the printer’s supported paper weight range (typically between 60 to 300 gsm for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710).

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem with the paper feed mechanism. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
