Hi @alex6830,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Officejet Pro 6830 is experiencing a sensor issue that's not detecting the tray as closed.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on to see if the error persists.
2. Check the Tray and Sensor
- Remove and Reinsert the Tray: Carefully pull out the paper tray completely, check for any debris or misalignment, and then firmly push it back in to ensure it's properly seated.
- Inspect the Tray Sensors: There are small sensors inside the printer that detect whether the tray is closed. These sensors can sometimes become obstructed or malfunction. Look inside the printer where the tray fits and see if there’s any debris blocking the sensor. If possible, gently clean the sensor with a soft, dry cloth.
3. Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 2-3 minutes.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet first and then to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on and check if the message still appears.
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause communication issues with sensors.
- To update, go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model to find and download the latest firmware.
5. Check for Hardware Obstructions
- Open the printer and look inside for any paper scraps or other obstructions that might be causing the sensor to misread the tray position.
- Use a flashlight if necessary to look inside the printer, especially around the tray area.
6. Factory Reset
- If all else fails, you might need to perform a factory reset. Keep in mind that this will reset all settings on the printer to their defaults.
- You can find the factory reset option in the printer’s settings menu under "Restore Defaults" or a similar option.
