HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I got an HP OfficeJet Pro 9025e All-in-One-Printer less than a year ago. I use it for the restaurant I work for, and I mainly print on card stock for specials menus, happy hour menus, etc. I specifically got this one because it's small but can still print on card stock and glossy paper.

I spoke/chatted with multiple customer service reps to confirm that I'm using the accepted card stock for this specific printer. I was told that anything between 90-110 lb is fine and I'm using 110 lb, which I know is the heaviest, but still, I was told that it would work by an HP employee. I'm using the settings I was told too, "alternate tray", "heavyweight paper"...

It worked well for a couple months and I had no issue printing on the mentioned card stock. It was printing double sided and it was always aligned properly. Then it started printing completely misaligned, always missing about an inch of the design, and I started having to redesign my menus so that I could print on the front side only, and scaling it to about 85% because this was the only way that I was able to print at all.

I called customer support and after doing various tests for an hour I was told that this was a manufacturer error. HP sent me a replacement printer and I sent the old one back.

It's now been ONE WEEK with the replacement printer and it's doing the exact same thing. I don't want to call customer service again and have them send me a second replacement printer that does the exact same thing. It seems to me that HP is advertising that certain card stock work when they generally don't.

My question is: WHAT KIND OF CARD STOCK WILL ACTUALLY WORK? Do I need to use 90 lb which is the lightest acceptable kind? Are there any little "tricks" to fix this problem?

At this point I'm desperate for help. We're a mom & pop place, and I'm wasting so much time, money and paper, and I just want to be able to print... Has anyone else been able to solve this problem?

Welcome to the HP Community --

Try Brochure Paper (matte / glossy) or Professional Paper - 180 gsm.

Not Index paper weight -- the printer is made to handle it.

Brochure / Professional paper can handle 2-sided printing without bleed-through.

True - Brochure / Professional paper is not quite as opaque as Index weight paper (200 gsm).

I have a recently retired OfficeJet Pro 9025 (new in 2019) -

Printed on all sorts of paper --  great printer - retired only because I wanted the 9135e for access to specialty features (for example, Print Anywhere).  Limited office space.

The 9025 Printer was very fussy about being kept clean.  Princess level fussy.

ADF and rollers, too.

If you are running multiple runs of two-sided (or even dense one-sided) jobs on a daily (or near daily) basis, consider how often you are cleaning the printer.  Maybe clean once a week?  Twice a month?

=====================================================

You know the following - Consider it review only

Make sure the printer is always aware of the paper size and type.

This is in addition to whatever you are setting in your print software.

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section Open the EWS over a local network orientation

EWS – Tray and Paper Management

Original EWS

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model and EWS version Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

OR

Alternate Style EWS

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

And (in addition and as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default tray

Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

EWS (Embedded Web Server) provides access and control for Settings, including Tray and Paper.

Reminder

HP Smart Mobile might require that paper size / type is rechecked / adjusted before the content is opened for print.

Notes

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray.

New printer?  Touchscreen Printer Control Panel locked against making changes?  Try username "admin" and the PIN located on the sticker on the inside of the front door of the printer.

Trays

  • If the printer lacks a second tray, all paper / types are supported in the single available tray.
  • Printers that include a Photo Tray generally restrict the paper sizes and paper type supported in that tray.
