Observation:
Offhand, I do not know of a way to switch the operation to "face down".
This printer series uses a traditional output and tray extension - printed content is expelled face up.
I did have a much loved OfficeJet Pro 8740 that included the "Print Forward" design - Rather than a traditional extended output tray, the printer output printed content face-down in an integrated tray design. It was described (for example):
"HP Print Forward Design: advanced paper handling for business, no trays or extensions, private and hassle-free output. Advanced duplex capability with single-pass duplex copy/scan"
The only time "Face down" seemed a "questionable" feature (in my opinion) was when I was printing photos. Still - it seemed fine even then as long as I used recommended photo paper and did not rush over and squish the photo into the tray as I was removing it. Lovely printer.
