HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer

How do I remove the photo paper tray from the printer? I am unable to print wirelessly because I don’t have photo paper loaded but only use the main tray for paper printing. The printer error says the printer is out of paper and won’t pull from the other tray.

Welcome to the HP Community --

Physically removing the tray might not impact the setting.

AND / OR

Physically removing the tray might change the message / error.

For example, the error might change to photo tray blocked.

There are generally at least two places where the printer is aware of the paper size / type (Tray and Paper).

For example,

  1. Printer / EWS settings that govern Paper Size / Type selection - Tray and Paper
  2. Application / Software used to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer

===============================

Printer - (Re)Load Paper / EWS

This printer includes a touch screen, that is, a text input capable printer control panel where you can interact with the printer settings.

When paper is (re)loaded, the printer provides the opportunity to select (choose) the paper size and type.

If you open the paper tray and then close it, do check for any messages, including those for confirming or modifying the paper size and type.

The printer settings can also be viewed and adjusted using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

EWS can be opened using your Browser or from within HP Smart (PC or Mobile).

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE:  Find printer IP address

Section How do I manually assign an IP address to my printer?  Items 1-2

EWS – Tray and Paper Management

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Tray and Paper – Paper Size / Paper Type / Paper Weight

Reminder

HP Smart Mobile might require that paper size / type is rechecked / adjusted before the content is opened for print.

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

EWS provides access and control to check / adjust Tray and Paper Settings.

Notes

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray.

Trays

  • If the printer lacks a second tray, all paper / types are supported in the single available tray.
  • Printers that include a Photo Tray generally restrict the paper sizes and paper type supported in that tray.

Custom size?

If EWS does not allow setting the paper size or size “Custom”,

If the printer includes a touch display printer control panel,

Look for the setting for “Custom” in the Printer Control Panel after (re)loading the paper to be used

NOTE:  Not available for all printers

What?

Paper Size, Type, and Weight must be appropriate for the tray in which that paper is to be used.

Depending on the printer model, Tray 1 might be used for Custom media.

In this scenario, Tray 2 might only support Plain paper.

OR

If the "Custom Paper Tray" is Tray 2, then Tray 1 might only support Plain paper.

Printers that include a Photo Tray generally limit the size and type of paper that the Photo Tray supports.  Example:  Depending on the printer model, the Photo Tray might support only 4x6 inch photo paper.
