I have already removed and reinserted my ink cartridges and cleared a paper that was jamming the system. I have umplugged, waited, and restarted my printer several times. I am unable to clear the error code and use the printer normally.

Hi @Juli67,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must be to keep seeing Error Code 3 even after carefully clearing the paper jam and resetting your printer.

Could you please share your printer model number ?

Here are a few additional checks you can try:

Check paper path: Open all access doors and trays to ensure no small scraps of paper are stuck inside. Even tiny pieces can trigger persistent errors.

Inspect rollers: Gently clean the paper feed rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly. Dust or residue can cause repeated jams.

Reset printer settings: Perform a full reset by unplugging the power cord while the printer is on, waiting 60 seconds, then reconnecting. This clears residual error states.

Check cartridge seating: Make sure the cartridges click firmly into place and that no protective tape remains on the contacts.

Update firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes misinterpret cleared errors. Updating through HP Smart or the printer’s control panel can help.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
