How do you lift the adf cover tray on an 8710? Support videos show this being done, but mine doesn't seem to lift. I am trying to fix persistent paper jams--nothing to do with the adf--but I'm trying to give the printer a thorough cleaning in the process.

  • Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Lift the ADF cover.

True - the paper jam document does not include the steps to switch off the printer and unplug before raising the ADF cover.  ??

Hi Dragon-Fur, thanks for the suggestions, though it didn't seem to matter for me whether or not the power was on.  In any case, I fixed my printer jam issue by cleaning the rollers and the printhead, and then what I think really made the difference was running the "align printhead" option.

You are welcome.

Well, there you go.

It depends on the model - some printers have to be switched OFF and UNPLUGGED to get to the parts on the inside of the printer.   Why?   Some latches won't unlatch, some rollers won't roll, some connections won't let go, the electrical parts might try to zap the user.

Good that a simple cleaning fixed it.
