In clearing a paper jam from my Envy 6000 printer, I needed to remove the flip gate to get the last bit of paper out. These components seem simple, but I'm having trouble reinstalling the flip gate and the plastic roller piece that goes behind it.  The paper jam instructions helpfully say not to remove the flip gate - so now what?

Help!  I haven't seen an answer on the HP discussions.

Thanks.

For those who find themselves in the same predicament.

Try this:

1) Hold the thin plastic piece (paper guide?) behind the flip plate rollers as you begin. The rollers should fit between the square plastic tongues of the paper guide.  The plastic tongues should point up, with the flat part of the paper guide on the bottom.

2) With the flip gate in the open position, seat the right end of the metal rod into the notch on the right.

3) On the left side, open the flip gate a bit more so that you can settle the plastic gear wheel into place next to the other gear.

4) Close the flip gate.

Super flimsy design that's very easy to disrupt and takes patience, prayers, and strong tea to put back together.

I have worked on this for several hours today. I thought I had it after reading this, BUT the thin plastic thing (paper guide) fell down soon as I finished. Ugg, obviously I had that part in the wrong position. Seriously I need diagrams or photos. Any suggestions?

Sorry - I spoke too soon.  My solution worked great printing lots of copies front and back for a few days, and then... the long plastic piece fell out and that was that.

Is your printer still under warranty?  I ended up with a long video session with an HP support person who finally sent me a new printer.  Go to the HP product support page to find out if your printer is eligible.

During the video session with the tech support person - who was very helpful, by the way - we tried opening the flip gate, and positioning the long plastic piece against the rollers so that the piece was concave (plastic teeth curling toward you at the top), the flat edge was on the bottom and the teeth were pointing upwards between the rollers.  Then close the flip gate. This might work for you.

Also note that it's possible to print one-sided without the long plastic piece.  Apparently it's meant to guide double-sided printing.  Of course, this is not a satisfactory situation.

Hope this helps.  It's a real shame that HP is silent about this known design flaw and isn't addressing questions about it.
