Hi @DAVIDMERRIMAN,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 is displaying a "Printhead Problem" error and you're using a Mac running macOS Sonoma, here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue.

Restart Your Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check the Printhead:

  • Open the printer cover to access the printhead.
  • Carefully remove the printhead from its cradle. Ensure you don't touch the electrical contacts.
  • Inspect the printhead for any ink buildup or debris.
  • Clean the printhead contacts using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.

Reinstall the Printhead:

  • After cleaning, carefully reinstall the printhead back into the printer.
  • Ensure it is seated properly and securely.
  • Close the printer cover and see if the error persists.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app on your Mac or by visiting HP’s website.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes resetting the printer to its default settings can resolve issues.
  • Go to the printer’s settings menu, find the option for "Restore Factory Defaults," and follow the prompts to reset the printer.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Make sure that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and are compatible with your printer.
  • If they are low or empty, consider replacing them.

Perform a Printhead Cleaning Cycle:

  • From the printer’s control panel or the HP Utility on your Mac, navigate to the maintenance settings and run a printhead cleaning cycle.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
