HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

When printing, printer will sometimes print the first page perfectly, however after that it stops picking up the paper from tray, although it keeps cycling like it is printing and displays the "Printing document" message on printer screen.  I have changed both pickup rollers, however that didn't fix problem.  The printer prints beautifully when it does work.  I have reloaded all software and drivers to no avail.  Once it prints a "Demo Page" from printer screen tools menu, it just keeps cycling.  When I stop it and try and print "Demo Page" again, it says "Printing document" but just keeps cycling, while sounding like it is picking up paper, but doesn't.  I hate to junk it because it prints beautifully when a page does make it thru.

It has been a long time since I worked on one of these. Have you checked youtube? These type of common repairs usually have quite a few videos posted on making the repair.

Based on the age, likely the pickup roller is worn or the pickup solenoid is sticking or both. Pull out the paper tray and look at the gray (possibly black) roller in the middle back of the paper tray cavity. It should be a consistent color and have finger print like ridges on it. If it is dirty, clean it, if it is worn you need to replace it. Part number for the roller is RM1-4426-000CN. Check you tube for a video on how to change, there are plenty out there.

Thanks so much for your reply to my problem.  I have changed the paper pickup rollers for brand new ones.  You mention possible solenoid issue which makes sense to me, as after printer sits like overnight, it will pick up a single page and print it perfectly, then goes into a loop where it sounds like its printing, but the pickup rollers do not move at all.  This could be because the solenoid sticks after the first page, but will come undone after sitting for an extended period.  I've torn into the printer, but so far have not been able to locate the solenoid.  Any idea where it's located & how to get to it???  Thanks again for your assistance - very much appreciated.  - Dan Smith

I was able to find YouTube videos that showed me how to tear into my HP Laserjet Pro CM1415.  Had to go pretty deep inside, but was finally able to find/clean/modify the solenoid.  Got it put back together and after finding and  reconnecting a couple of the connectors I had missed, its printing like a new printer.  I really appreciate your advice, as I was not even aware that the paper feed used a solenoid.  It was quite an afternoon/evening project, but a lot of fun.  Thanks again.
