I have a HP PageWide Pro MFP 477dw, the Paper  in the paper drawer will not lift all the way, not allowing it to print, I had the same issue on the last printer exactly the same as this one and after a year of service it seems the drawer quits working.

I have seen cases where the gears on the back of the tray itself get broken.  I have also experienced one printer that the lift motor in the tray cavity that is held in place by 1 screw broke at the plastic boss for the retention screw. In that case I was able to reseat and use a screw with a slightly larger head to hold the motor in place. Failing that, you might be able to brace the motor from the back to keep it in place.
