HP LaserJet Enterprise M608n

The printer has always been used to print 8.5x11 preprinted check stock, but it will not feed from tray 2 without a message wrong media.  It will not allow to change, as the 8.5x11 option is dimmed out on the settings.

Please advise.

This may be a media type issue, not size issue. If your program is trying to print and requests the printer to use pre-printed as paper type but the printer is set for plain paper or other, non-matching paper type then you will get this error.

I feel like that's very possible.  But when I try to change the try two settings via the panel, the option to change the media is dimmed out.  I can't make any adjustments, via the panel.  I spoke to someone who suggested a power drain, then a sensor test, then replace paper feeder pick up assembly if the first two things don't work.   Would you agree?

If it is greyed out it suggests that the option to change has been disabled through the embedded web server by someone. Sensors would not stop you from changing paper type, the would only stop you from adjusting size, as size is typically auto-set based on the location of the paper guides in the tray, the exception being if the paper guides are in an odd spot in which case the printer will want to know. Easiest way to test size sensors is to set the tray to legal and see if it detects that properly. You do not need to load paper to do this, just set the tray to legal and insert it and see if the tray size changes.
