This is a HP colour laser MFP179fnw. I have had it trouble free for 3 or 4 months or so. The paer jammed this morning. The paper tray area was clear but on opening the back I found the jammed paper. I was able to remove it although it took a lot of effort to free it from the upper roller. It then jammed again and I repeated the exercise. I then printed one test sheet and it worked, and then promptly jammed again on the next sheet. On this occasion however, it is so tightly jammed around the drum thing that the paper rips when pulling. I don't want to rip it further! Is there a way to release the pressure on that (red coloured) roller or drum? The video I watched was no help at all as the papers shown in the various areas were all fee! and just needed removal! I have pics of the areas I can send if that helps.

The roller you are speaking of is likely the fuser pressure roller. If you open the front/cartridge door the pressure is normally released, although in my experience, paper wrapped that tightly is still going to fight like a cornered bobcat. The only safe way to remove it may be to disassemble the printer and remove the fuser to get the jam out. Check youtube for videos showing how to remove the fuser unit. Other observation is that often when you are having these types of jams in the fuser it is caused by either a failing fuser or a media type that just does not play nice with the printer.
