Hi @KPWFDE,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A halfway paper jam in the HP LaserJet 1018 can be caused by various factors such as worn-out rollers, obstructions, or fuser issues. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Remove Stuck Paper Properly

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the front cover and remove the toner cartridge.
  • Gently pull out any jammed paper without tearing it.
  • If the paper is stuck near the fuser (rear of the printer), open the rear door and carefully pull it out.

2. Check and Clean Paper Rollers

  • Inspect the pickup roller and feed rollers for dirt, wear, or cracks.
  • Clean them with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher).
  • If rollers are worn out, consider replacing them.

3. Verify Paper Type and Quality

  • Ensure you’re using the correct paper type (recommended: 75–90 GSM standard office paper).
  • Avoid damaged, damp, or curled paper as it can cause jams.
  • Check if too many sheets are loaded in the tray—try a smaller stack.

4. Check the Toner Cartridge

  • Remove the toner cartridge and inspect it for loose toner or any paper debris.
  • Gently shake the cartridge side to side to redistribute the toner.
  • If the cartridge is nearly empty, replace it.

5. Inspect the Fuser Unit

  • If paper always stops at the same halfway point, the fuser assembly may be failing.
  • Check if the fuser rollers are damaged or if any small bits of paper are stuck inside.
  • If the fuser is faulty, replacing it is usually the best solution.

6. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • If jams persist during printing, outdated or corrupt drivers could be causing improper paper handling.
  • Download and install the latest HP LaserJet 1018 driver from the HP Support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
