Hello community, I got a printer, the HP Laser Jet Pro, into which I insert A4 paper with a weight of 80 g/m^2, then it starts producing a paper jam. However, when I insert A4 college pad paper with 70 g/m^2 it works perfectly. Are there any special specifications to be placed on the printer paper that I don't know about yet? would need your advice.

Hi @Lorenzo9720
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
t's not uncommon for a printer to have different paper handling capabilities based on the paper's weight or thickness. In your case, the LaserJet Pro 118dw appears to be experiencing paper jams with 80g/m² paper but not with 70g/m² paper. This can be due to the printer's paper handling mechanisms being optimized for a specific paper thickness range.
Here are some steps you can take to address the issue with 80g/m² paper:
-
Check Paper Weight and Type Setting: Make sure that you've correctly set the paper type and weight in the printer's settings to match the actual paper you're using. Some printers have settings that allow you to specify the paper type (e.g., plain, thick, or heavy), and the weight (g/m²). Verify that you've selected the appropriate settings for your 80g/m² paper.
-
Clean the Printer: Paper jams can sometimes be caused by accumulated dust or debris inside the printer. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Open the printer's cover and carefully remove any loose paper or debris that may be obstructing the paper path. Be gentle when doing this to avoid causing any damage.
-
Inspect the Paper Tray: Examine the paper tray for any misaligned or damaged paper guides. Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly and that it's not exceeding the tray's capacity. Adjust the paper guides to fit the 80g/m² paper properly.
-
Use High-Quality Paper: Sometimes, using lower-quality or damaged paper can contribute to paper jams. Ensure that the 80g/m² paper is of good quality and not torn or damaged.
-
Fan the Paper: Before loading the paper into the printer, fan the stack to separate the sheets. This can help prevent multiple sheets from feeding at once.
-
Reduce the Number of Sheets: If you are loading multiple sheets at a time, try reducing the number of sheets in the paper tray. Overloading the tray can lead to paper jams.
-
Update Firmware and Drivers: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware and drivers installed. Manufacturers often release updates that can improve printer performance and compatibility with various paper types.
-
Contact HP Support: If the issue persists despite trying these steps, and the 80g/m² paper continues to cause jams, it might be a limitation of the printer's paper handling capabilities with that specific paper weight. In such cases, it's advisable to contact HP customer support or refer to the printer's user manual for guidance.
