HP ENVY 6032 All-In-One Printer

I can't open the lid to change ink. It lifts a few cms and the won't fully open. The orange light comes on when I try and lift it. The black cartridge is empty and I wish to change it but can't access it. If I forced the lid  open it feels like something would break

Hi @RSD7a,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the lid of your HP Envy 6032 printer won't open and is stuck, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Power Off: First, make sure the printer is powered off. Unplug it from the power source if necessary.
  • Check for Obstructions: Inspect the area around the lid for any objects or debris that might be preventing it from opening. Clear any obstructions carefully.
  • Gently Apply Pressure: Try gently applying upward pressure on the lid while attempting to open it. Sometimes, it might be stuck due to a minor misalignment, and a little force in the right direction can help.
  • Unlock Mechanism: Check if there is any kind of locking mechanism on the lid. If so, make sure it's in the unlocked position.
  • Restart the Printer: Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and try to open the lid using the normal method.
  • Use the Release Button: Some printers have a release button or lever that can be used to manually unlock the lid. Refer to your printer's manual to locate and use this feature.
  • Paper Jam: Sometimes, a paper jam can cause the lid to get stuck. Check for any paper jams in the printer and clear them if necessary.
  • Lubricate Hinges: If you can access the hinges of the lid, you might try applying a small amount of lubricant to them. This can help if the lid is sticking due to friction.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your thoughts Alden,

I've managed to prise open the lid just enough to insert a new black cartridge and the printer prints fine. But none of the suggestions have freed up the lid which still barely opens.

So I'd say the problem is not yet resolved.

By the way this printer doesn't have a release button or an unlocking mechanism
