Our M402n cannot feed paper if the tray is less than half full.

When the paper tray is ½ full, I get a “tray 2 jam” and it stops the project.

I have simply tried to keep the tray full to avoid the “jam”, but when a large project needs to get done, I have to reload the tray to the top to finish the job.

Does someone know what the issue might be?

Check your paper level indicator on the left side of the front of tray.  Sometimes it will get out of position and prevent tray from moving up.  Tray is spring loaded to move up.

@NC77 has provided you with the most likely cause. The paper level indicator is c shaped on the inside and the metal paper tray is supposed to be between the arms of the C. You may have to fiddle to get it into the right position.
