HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

In the specification sheets there are no indications about which weight is the maximum suitable for the printer in A3 format. I bought last week a HP Advanced Photo Paper kit but it turned out that the printer cannot accept it (and jammed). The paper was a 250g/sqm. I tried with a different brand wich was a 240g/sqm an it worked. What kind of HP paper should I buy? What is the maximum A3 weight accepted by the printer?

thanks in advance

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

The photo paper weight specifications for the printer are not different for A3 paper.

Other factors include:

  • Printer health - clean and ready to accept larger paper
  • Printer Firmware updated
  • Tray and Paper settings for Paper size / type
  • Windows >> Full Feature Software installed
  • Windows >> Printer Properties correctly set to select the HP driver (and not the Microsoft IPP / class driver)

All these things equal, No I cannot explain the discrepancy you describe.

Printer - Full Feature Software - Install

If you have not done so, consider

  • HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:  Printer Assistant and HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

If the full driver printer software is (already) installed but not working,

  • Uninstall any printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and sign in.

Next,

  • Check (for the Printer) in Devices and Printers  > If found, Right-Click Printer and Remove -- If any changes are made, that is, you remove anything, Restart the computer and sign in.I

Next,

  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.
  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start Software

For your Printer

>>> Full Feature Software - Web Pack Installation Package - Information and Download <<<

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Installation

  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Installed full driver printer software adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:

Printer - Printer Properties -

Make sure the printer and the full driver are selected in Printer Properties.

What?  Microsoft print drivers do not support all the features available in the full driver.

Thanks for your answer, but I have to report that this seems to be incorrect, as the Advanced Photo Paper (reported among the suitable media types) is rejected by the printer (the printer jammed using it). This is also the reason for my info request, as this type of paper (Advanced Photo Paper) is 250g/sqm. I ordered some Epson paper instead (180g/sqm) and I'm waiting to test it.

You are welcome.

Interesting.

The information provided is standard for this printer model.

I cannot find anything that indicates the data is actually incorrect.

I've added the information I found in the User Guide to the References section (later in this message).

Regardless,

Data is just that -- data is not your printer and data is not your paper.

Use what works in your printer.

Reminder to those reading

This model:  Tray 2 supports plain paper only

What else?

Yes, Supported:   Brochure / Professional paper -- Matte or Glossy -- 180 gsm

The 180 gsm weight Brochure paper is popular for printing photos, brochures and booklets / cards, flyers, and certificates.

For those reading

A3 paper requires extra care and attention to achieve reasonable results in quality, color, and completeness.

For example,

  • The Full Feature Software must be installed (and working)
  • The Printer Properties must be set to Driver = the HP driver as opposed to the Microsoft driver
  • The printer must be clean and ready to handle the heavier paper type
  • Source:  Paper must be loaded correctly and loaded into the tray that supports the paper type
  • Both the printer (using EWS) and the software used to print must be set to the correct paper size / type
  • Software / Application should set to the correct Source / Tray

Thank for your interest. What I can say is that using HP Advanced Photo Paper the printer jammed all the times(not a single printing job could be done), The same occurred using Epson 250g/sqm glossy photo paper. I tried with AS Marri 240g/sqm gloss)satin photo paper and it worked fine. I then can assume that the maximum paper weight is something between 240 and 250 g/sqm

@ArchSquassabia

Certainly seems true in this case.

I'm looking at the Usage Report and Event Log for my OfficeJet Pro 9025 -- the unit is lightly used (purchased 2019) -- the total page counts are useless in the context of comparing them, for example, with a report of this type from your printer.

Why check the reports?

I found a review for your printer model dated 2014 -- the unit might be nearly nine years old at this time.

Years of service can impact printer performance, including how well -- or if -- the printer handles paper it "should" support.

Reference

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Tools > Reports > Usage Report

Regardless of the reason, using lighter weight  photo paper is correct for your printer.

Thanks for the conversation.
