Hi @choppyIII,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
As your HP ENVY 7640 is displaying a "Photo Tray is Blocked" error and making a clicking noise, here are some steps to fix it:
1. Remove and Reinsert the Photo Tray
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
- Gently pull out the photo tray and check for any jammed paper or debris.
- Reinsert the photo tray properly, making sure it clicks into place.
2. Check for Obstructions
- Remove all paper from the main input tray and photo tray.
- Use a flashlight to check if anything is stuck inside, like paper fragments or dust.
- If you find anything, carefully remove it.
3. Reset the Printer
- Unplug the printer while it's still on.
- Wait for 60 seconds and then plug it back in.
- Turn the printer on and see if the error persists.
4. Clean the Rollers
- Open the rear access door and locate the paper feed rollers.
- Clean them using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Let them dry completely before reinserting.

5. Update the Printer Firmware
- Go to HP Support (HP Software & Drivers) and check if there is a firmware update available for your printer.
6. Perform a Printer Diagnostic Test
- On your printer's control panel, go to:
Setup → Printer Maintenance → Clean Paper Feed - This will help clear any paper feed issues.
7. Manually Adjust the Photo Tray Gears (if clicking persists)
- The clicking noise suggests that the tray gears might be misaligned.
- If you feel comfortable, carefully remove the photo tray and inspect the gears.
- Try manually rotating the gears slightly to realign them.
