When I use a piece of thick paper, the printer works fine, but when I load card, the feeder does not feed properly - the printing comes in the wrong place. It seems that it is feeding the card too slowly. This happens in both trays. I want to have Tray 2 permanently set up to print my gift cards and it just doesn't work!

Welcome to the HP Community.
Please help us understand what you are doing and what you have already tried.
Considerations...
- Is the card paper a supported paper size and paper weight? (Printer Specifications)
- Note: Tray 2 supports plain paper, thick, supported card, specialty, or photo papers
- Is the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installed? (HP Smart AND full driver installed)
- Is the printer aware of the paper size / paper type loaded in Tray 2? (Printer Display / EWS)
And
- Which software / application / program are you using to view / set / submit the print job?
