HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 All-in-One Printer

For no understandable reason my printer is suddenly telling me there is no paper when there is and refuses to feed paper into the printer. Please help, this is a replacement printer that HP only sent to me two weeks ago, and it has already broken down.

Hi @Pipster1970,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 All-In-One Printer is not recognizing paper in the tray, it can be frustrating, but there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.

  • Check Paper Orientation: Ensure that the paper in the tray is loaded correctly and matches the paper size settings on the printer. The paper guides should snugly hold the paper in place.
  • Paper Type and Condition: Make sure you are using the correct type and quality of paper recommended for your printer. Check for any damaged or wrinkled sheets in the paper stack.
  • Paper Tray Inspection: Examine the paper tray for any foreign objects or debris that might be blocking the paper from being properly detected.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear minor glitches.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Manufacturers often release firmware updates that address various issues.
  • Clean Paper Feed Rollers: Over time, paper feed rollers can accumulate dust and debris, which can affect paper detection. Consult your printer's manual for instructions on how to clean them.
  • Check for Sensor Issues: There may be paper sensors in the paper tray area that could be dirty or malfunctioning. Carefully inspect and clean these sensors if necessary.
  • Driver and Software Update: Ensure that your printer drivers and software are up-to-date. You can typically find the latest drivers on the HP website.
  • Paper Tray Settings: Check the settings on your computer or printer's control panel to ensure they are configured to use the correct paper tray.
  • Reset Printer Settings: You can also try resetting your printer to its default settings. Be cautious with this step, as it may erase some custom settings.
  • Paper Tray Replacement: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there is a hardware problem with the paper tray or sensor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your advice, but none of the above is relevant. The printer is a replacement for another failed printer and I have only had it for 12 days. Clearly HP have sent me a 2nd hand or faulty product, and I will now be seeking compensation for the stress and inconvenience caused by their incompetent customer services.
