Can anyone help me understand the reason why my printer is not pulling the paper correctly at the beginning of the print job, and therefore, the paper jams before going inside the printer?

Hi @JCSM1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Smart Tank not pulling paper!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
1. Check the Paper and Paper Tray
- Ensure you are using the correct paper size and type recommended for the printer.
- Make sure the paper is not curled, damp, or wrinkled.
- Fan the stack of paper to remove any static and ensure sheets are not stuck together.
- Adjust the paper guides in the tray so they lightly touch the edges of the paper without being too tight.
2. Inspect and Clean the Paper Rollers
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the paper path access door and inspect the rollers.
- Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water or a mild, lint-free cleaning solution.
- Allow them to dry completely before turning the printer back on.
3. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on to reset the internal mechanisms.
4. Check for Obstructions
- Remove any jammed paper or debris inside the printer.
- Use a flashlight to look inside for small torn paper bits that might be causing the jam.
5. Try a Different Paper Type
- If you're using thick, glossy, or specialty paper, switch to standard A4 or Letter-sized plain paper to test if the issue persists.
6. Update Printer Firmware
- Go to HP Support (HP Software and Drivers) and check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
7. Perform a Printer Maintenance Diagnostic
- On the HP Smart App or printer menu, look for a clean paper feed rollers or diagnostic tool option to see if the printer detects any issues.
