I have a HP Officejet 6958 printer which will not turn off. Also it will not print anything. I have checked for jammed paper, refilled the paper tray, turned off the printer and turned it back on. Now it will not shut down.

Hi @Flo1952, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your HP OfficeJet 6958 printer is unresponsive and won't turn off, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Perform a Hard Reset
Unplug the Power Cord
- Disconnect the power cord while the printer is still on.
- Unplug it from both the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds to allow the printer to discharge completely.
Reconnect the Power Cord
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips or surge protectors).
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on and check if it responds.
Check for Error Messages
- If your printer screen shows an error message, let me know what it says.
- If the display is blank or frozen, proceed to the next step.
Try a Firmware Update (If Possible)
- If the printer turns on and is responsive, update the firmware via HP Smart or the HP Support website.
Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults
- From the printer control panel, go to:
- Setup (⚙️) > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults
- Select Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.
- The printer will restart. Try printing again.
Check Printer Connection
- If the printer is wireless, ensure it’s connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- If using USB, try a different USB port or cable.
If the Printer Still Won’t Turn Off:
- Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
- If that doesn’t work, unplug it again and leave it disconnected for 10-15 minutes before retrying.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
