Saying there is a paper jam but there is no paper jam. I have checked all places one could be and followed all instructions from virtual assistant but still saying there is a paper jam. Could it be that the runners have moved?

Hi @CatJones1989,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is indicating a paper jam but you can't find any paper stuck inside, it could be due to a few reasons. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check All Paper Paths
- Double-check all accessible areas, including the input tray, output tray, and any rear access doors or panels.
- Remove any paper that might be partially fed through.
2. Inspect the Rollers
- Examine the rollers for dirt or debris that might be causing the paper to slip or not feed correctly. Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
3. Check for Small Bits of Paper
- Look for any tiny scraps of paper that might be lodged in the rollers or other parts of the printer. Even a small piece can cause a jam error.
4. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the wall, and wait for about a minute. Plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes reset error messages.
5. Check the Sensors
- Some printers have sensors that detect paper jams. If these sensors are dirty or misaligned, they might falsely indicate a jam. Clean the sensors gently if you can access them.
6. Reposition the Carriage
- If you suspect the runners or the print carriage are misaligned, gently move the carriage back and forth (when powered off) to ensure it can move freely.
7. Update or Reinstall Drivers
- Sometimes, a driver issue can cause incorrect error messages. Ensure you have the latest drivers installed from the HP website.
8. Run the Printer Troubleshooter
- If you're using Windows, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners. Select your printer and run the troubleshooter for more automated guidance.
9. Check for Firmware Updates
- Visit the Hp website to see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer that might address this issue.
10. Factory Reset (as a last resort)
- If nothing else works, consider performing a factory reset on the printer (check the manual for instructions). Note that this will erase all settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
