Bought at an auction a HP Photosmart 7520. It came without a duplex. Bought new cartridges and cleaned paper feed rollers. When I go to print, the paper feeds straight through to the back of the printer and the error says it is out of paper. There is plenty of paper in the tray. Help!

It sounds like your HP Photosmart 7520 isn't properly detecting the paper, even though it's feeding through. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

 

1. Clean the Paper Pickup Rollers

  • Dust buildup on the rollers can cause feeding issues. Try cleaning them with a damp lint-free cloth or alcohol swabs.

 

2. Check Paper Tray Alignment

  • Ensure the paper is properly loaded and aligned in the tray.
  • Try adjusting the paper guides to make sure they’re snug but not too tight.

 

3. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and try printing again.

 

4. Inspect for Mechanical Issues

  • Some users have reported that a loose gear inside the printer can cause this issue. A fix involves securing the gear with adhesive—check out this video tutorial for details.

 

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit HP’s official support page here to check for firmware updates.
