Hi @Balliet2u ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue you're experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 printer could be due to a mechanical problem with the paper tray sensor or an internal jam. Here are steps to troubleshoot:

1. Check for Obstructions

  • Remove the paper tray completely.
  • Inspect the printer's paper feed area and the tray for any obstructions, debris, or small pieces of paper that may have gotten stuck.
  • Clear any visible blockages.

2. Inspect the Paper Tray

  • Check the tray for damage, such as cracks or bent parts that could prevent it from sitting properly.
  • Ensure the paper guide sliders are correctly positioned and not over-tightened against the paper.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Reinsert the paper tray carefully, ensuring it clicks into place.

4. Check the Paper Tray Sensor

The "paper tray is open" error can occur if the sensor is dirty or misaligned:

  • Locate the sensor in the tray slot inside the printer (it is usually a small plastic lever or an optical sensor).
  • Use a flashlight to inspect the sensor for dust or debris.
  • Clean the sensor gently with a soft cloth or compressed air.

5. Recalibrate the Printer

  • Load a small stack of paper into the tray.
  • Open the printer's settings or maintenance menu on the control panel.
  • Look for an option like "Calibrate Paper Tray" or "Printer Alignment" and follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Update Firmware

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date by checking via the HP Smart App or the HP website.

7. Perform a Hard Reset

If the issue persists, try a hard reset:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Disconnect it from the power outlet and wait 10-15 minutes.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds while unplugged.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
