This is a piece of garbage that is now on clearance at a retailer for less than the cost of HP's ink. I had an old school OfficeJet that was part of the lawsuit and therefore no issues using 3rd party ink. This printer is a hassle because I found out after purchase that somehow, they were able to create a workaround, so new printers were not subject to the requirements of the lawsuit. This then prevents me from using the all the features of the printer features and prevents me from updating the thing. Do not listen to any HP rep who tells you to update! And, the paper try is garbage, defective and constantly creates jamming. I paid almost $300 and not worth a penny. I should have just spent the money on parts for the old printer, and I may just do that and put this thing in the garbage.

@kelly195, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
HP's newer firmware updates block third-party ink cartridges with non-HP chips, and if your printer has already updated, you may not be able to bypass the "Non HP Chip Detected" error. Here’s what you can do:
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the cartridge is genuine HP or has a chip that supports HP printers.
- If using third-party ink, check if the supplier provides updated chips compatible with newer HP firmware.
Downgrade Printer Firmware (If Possible)
- If HP recently updated your firmware, rolling back might help.
- Check your printer's firmware version:
- On the printer, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Printer Information.
- Compare it to the latest firmware available on HP's website.
- Try to find an older firmware version online. HP does not officially provide rollback firmware, but some third-party sites may have older versions.
Disable Automatic Firmware Updates
- On the printer, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer → Printer Update Options
- Set it to "Do Not Check" or "Off."
Reset the Printer
If the firmware downgrade is not possible:
- Factory reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Hold Back and Cancel buttons (or Back and Power on some models).
- While holding the buttons, plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Release the buttons when the reset menu appears.
- Select Reset to Factory Defaults.
We strongly recommend you use HP cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, it is a compliant and all of us will have to up with it while the new lawsuits make it thru the courts, good luck with that these day, Besides HP creating a cybersecurity issue because you force me not to update because I refuse to be forced to pay for HP ink. In any event, the real issue, which just adds to the misery, lost 20+ pages yesterday. No way, as many have complained, does the standard paper guides lock into place, use paper legal and no issues.
