Got this message "Clear Output Area" which was intermittent for a while but is not permanent.
Says "clear output tray area" but there is nothing around or in the output tray area. The output paper flap often lies open and does not shut after printing. I can see nothing broken and I have cleaned around the output flap.
I have reinstalled the drivers/disconnected the printer/ run the HP print assist
Printer will not print or copy.
This fault is sooooo frustrating. Its turning my printer into a paperweight!
Any advice gratefully received

Hello Eddiec,
If the flappy door that covers the output bin is open (or somewhat open) that could be caused by a gear that moves such door that could be getting stuck. If the door is open the printer will sense that and treat such open door as having some media still in the output bin, hence showing such message.
If your printer is still under warranty, you can call tech support for further assistance. If your printer is out of warranty, you can take it to a repair center for inspection. Discarding Firmware issues, most likely the problem is either the door or the banana gear that raises such door.

Just to add that warped doors are not unheard of and they stick open when this happens
