I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8720. Two issues, but likely related.
1) If I attempt to copy a single (or multi) page document through the feeder, it will not print (all but the last page will print). I receive the error: "The document feeder was not able to pick up the original. Load the original in the document feeder and try again." If I add a blank page to the print package, the first page (all pages) will print, but not the second or blank page (except for the blank page).
2) If I attempt to scan a single page document through the feeder, it will not scan. I receive the error: "The document feeder was not able to pick up the original. Load the original in the document feeder and try again." If I add a blank page to the scan package, the document will scan - but not the last page, and the error message reappears.
- Similar issue with multi-page scans - I have to add a blank page at the end to get the full scan - but the last page does not scan and the error message reappears.

Hi @PMG-1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
I understand the ADF will not feed pages.
Try the below suggestions -
Clean the automatic document feeder (ADF)
If your printer has an ADF, clean it regularly to help avoid paper jams and quality problems.
Get a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
Remove the original document from the ADF.
Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord.
Open the ADF cover.
Find the paper pick rollers and the separator pad inside the ADF.
Callout
Description
1.
Paper pick roller
2.
Separator pad
Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with filtered or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.
Use the damp cloth to clean the paper pick rollers and the separator pad.
Leave the ADF cover open for two minutes to allow the rollers and pad to dry.
Close the ADF cover.
Reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the printer.
Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
NOTE:
HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
Also, try updating the printer's firmware -HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
