I NEED YOUR HELP COMMUNITY, I HAVE AN HP SMART TANK 580, THE PROBLEM THAT I HAD LATELY IS THAT IT DOESN'T TAKE THE SHEETS FROM THE INPUTS TRAY, I TOOK IT TO AN UNOFFICIAL HP TECHNICAL SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO SOLUTION THAT THE PRINTER WILL ONLY SERVICE TO PRINT ORDINARY SHEETS...IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY PAPER JAM, IT DOESN'T HAVE PIECES OF PAPER JAM. TO TELL THE TRUTH, THE TECHNICAL SERVICE SAID IT WOULD WORK FOR PLAIN PAPER, I CAN'T USE PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPERS OR ADHESIVES ON THOSE TYPES OF PAPERS DIRECTLY. THE PRINTER DOESN'T TAKE IT AND WHEN I TRY TO TAKE THE SHEET, THE GEARS MAKE A QUITE LOUD NOISE. PLEASE, I NEED YOUR HELP. THANK YOU.

Hi @NICOLAS51,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Follow these Troubleshooting Steps
Check Paper Type and Quality:
- Ensure that the paper you are using meets the printer’s specifications. Using paper that is too thick, glossy, or textured may cause feeding issues, especially with specialty papers like photographic papers.
- Refer to the printer's manual for supported paper types and weights.
Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:
- Paper feed rollers can accumulate dust and debris over time, which can affect the printer’s ability to take sheets. Cleaning the rollers might help resolve the issue.
- Use a lint-free cloth moistened with distilled water to gently clean the rollers.
Adjust Paper Guides:
- Verify that the paper guides in the input tray are adjusted correctly. The guides should be snug against the edges of the paper without bending or damaging it.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Sometimes, performing a hard reset can resolve paper feeding issues.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait for about one minute.
- Plug in the printer and turn it back on.
Update Printer Firmware:
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
Use Recommended Paper:
- HP printers often have specific recommendations for photographic and specialty papers. Use high-quality paper that is recommended by HP for your printer model to avoid feeding issues.
Steps to Clean Paper Feed Rollers
- Turn off and unplug the printer.
- Open the access door to the printer’s paper feed rollers (refer to the printer’s manual for specific instructions on accessing the rollers).
- Moisten a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
- Gently clean the rollers with the moistened cloth. Rotate the rollers manually to ensure all surfaces are cleaned.
- Allow the rollers to dry completely before closing the access door and plugging the printer back in.

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi, I already followed all the steps you told me before, and they didn't solve the printer. I need help looking deeper into the printer to check the gear system inside and see if any of them are worn or slipping out of the grooves on each gear (because sometimes they make a very loud noise inside, as if the gears aren't fitting properly and just slip). For that, I need help now, to see inside the printer.

Hi @NICOLAS51,
Thank you for the response.
I understand your concern about the gears possibly slipping inside the printer. However, opening the printer to inspect or repair internal components on your own is not recommended, as it could lead to further damage and may void any existing warranty or support coverage.
I strongly suggest reaching out to an HP Authorized Service Center for professional assistance. They will be able to diagnose the issue properly and provide the best solution.
