When I print a document with multiple pages, the pages are crooked. If I print them one page at a time, they are fine. Per other comments/solutions, I looked in the back door and the paper tray and inside the machine with a flashlight and do not see any objects or paper jams etc. I print multiple page documents (often 10+ pages) daily so this is a significant issue for me. The printer is only a few years old. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Hi @MCR2024
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re dealing with an issue where multiple-page documents print crooked, but printing one page at a time works fine. This could be due to an issue with how the paper is feeding through the printer, even though there are no visible jams or obstructions. Let’s go through a series of troubleshooting steps to try and resolve this issue.
1. Check the Paper Tray and Paper Alignment
- Paper Alignment: Ensure that the paper is loaded straight and aligned correctly in the paper tray. Misalignment of paper in the tray is one of the most common causes of crooked printing.
- Adjust Paper Guides: Check that the paper guides are snug against the paper without bending it. If the paper guides are too loose or too tight, they could cause the paper to shift during printing.
- Check for Paper Curling: Make sure the paper is not warped, curled, or bent, as this can cause it to misfeed. If the paper is old or stored improperly, it may have become warped.
2. Inspect and Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
- Over time, dust or debris can accumulate on the rollers, causing the paper to feed unevenly.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for safety.
- Clean the Rollers: Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or rubbing alcohol to clean the rollers inside the printer. Make sure you clean all the rollers that handle paper feeding, including those near the paper tray and inside the paper path.
- Check for Worn Rollers: Look for signs of wear on the rollers. If they appear to be damaged or not gripping the paper properly, they might need to be replaced.
3. Check for Any Paper Path Issues
- Even though you’ve looked inside, it’s worth taking a closer look at the entire paper path for any debris or small obstructions that might be causing the paper to shift. Sometimes, even small bits of paper or dust can cause issues with alignment.
- Look for Worn or Misaligned Parts: Ensure that no components are out of place or showing signs of wear. Misaligned or damaged parts can cause the paper to feed at an angle.
4. Test with Different Paper
- Sometimes, the paper itself can be the issue. Try using a different batch of high-quality, flat paper to rule out the possibility that the paper is causing the problem. Paper that is too thick or too thin can also affect the way the printer feeds it.
- Ensure Paper Type Compatibility: Make sure that the paper you're using is compatible with your printer, especially if you're using glossy or special paper types. These can sometimes cause feeding problems.
Check the Printer's Firmware
- Update Firmware: Sometimes, a firmware update can fix various printer issues. Visit HP’s website to check if there are any updates for your printer’s firmware.
I hope this helps.

Thank you for the response and detailed suggestions. I did what you recommended but I am not sure how I can get to the various rollers. It does not look like there is any way to get to them via the back door or by opening the top. Can you plese provide further information on this. Thank you.

Hi @MCR2024,
Thank you for following the troubleshooting steps and for getting back to us. @Rachel571 is away at the moment and I am @Max3Aj, I will be happy to help you out!
I understand that accessing the rollers can be tricky, and I'd be happy to guide you through it.
Cleaning the Paper Feed Rollers
Most of the rollers are located inside the paper input tray and at the rear of the printer. Here's how you can clean them:
1. Accessing the Rollers from the Paper Tray
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for safety.
- Remove the paper stack from the tray.
- Look inside the paper tray area—there should be rubber rollers that feed the paper into the printer.
- Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to wipe the rollers. Rotate them manually if possible to clean the entire surface.
2. Accessing the Rollers from the Rear (if applicable)
- If your printer has a rear access door or duplexer, open it.
- Look for any rollers inside the rear section.
- Clean them gently with a damp, lint-free cloth.
3. Running the Printer’s Built-in Cleaning Routine
Some HP printers have an automated cleaning function for the rollers:
- On the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app, look for a Clean Paper Feed or Roller Cleaning option under Maintenance or Tools.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning process.
