No matter what I do, I cannot clear the paper jam message from the printer. I have followed all the steps several times. I have turned off and rebooted the printer. Nothing works. The printer is almost five years old and I am out of warranty. If I can't get it to work, should I invest in a new printer?

Hi @BethFromNJ
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with a persistent paper jam error when the paper is clearly not jammed. Let's try a few more things before you decide to invest in a new printer.
Troubleshooting Paper Jam Error on HP Printer:
1. Physically Inspect for Paper Debris or Small Fragments
Even if you don't see a full paper jam, there could be small fragments of paper lodged inside the printer that are causing the error.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open all access doors where the paper feeds, including the rear access door (if your model has one).
- Gently pull any visible bits of paper or debris out. Check carefully around the rollers, feed area, and inside any accessible parts.
2. Check the Paper Tray and Feed Mechanism
Sometimes, the issue is in the paper tray or the way paper is loaded:
- Remove all paper from the input tray and make sure there are no paper bits caught in the rollers.
- Align the paper properly in the tray and avoid overloading it. Make sure the paper isn’t wrinkled, folded, or stuck together.
3. Clean the Rollers
The rollers that pull the paper through the printer may have accumulated dust, grime, or ink residue over time, which can cause paper jams.
- Use a soft cloth lightly dampened with water or a bit of isopropyl alcohol to clean the rollers. Turn the rollers manually to reach different parts.
- Let the rollers dry completely before trying to print again.
4. Perform a Reset or Power Cycle
If the printer is stuck in a "jammed" state, performing a hard reset can sometimes help clear the error:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Leave it unplugged for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and power it on.
- Check if the error is cleared when you try printing again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
