Hi @Scarr8,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "Paper Jam" message on your HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer, even when there's no visible jam, can occur due to various reasons, such as a sensor issue, debris in the paper path, or a hardware malfunction.
Here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Turn off the Printer and Inspect Again
- Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Remove Paper: Remove all paper from the input and output trays.
- Inspect Thoroughly:
- Open the paper path cover and check for torn paper bits, labels, or other debris.
- Look inside the input tray, output tray, and duplexer (if applicable).
- Use a flashlight to ensure nothing is stuck in hard-to-see areas.
2. Check and Clean Paper Path Sensors
- Access Sensors: Look for sensors along the paper path, especially near the rollers. They might be blocked or malfunctioning.
- Clean Sensors:
- Gently clean the sensors using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
- Ensure the sensors are free of dust, smudges, or debris.
3. Reset the Printer
- Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the printer from power while it’s still on.
- Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can reset error messages.
4. Check Rollers and Clean Them
- Access Rollers:
- Open the printer and locate the rollers (usually near the input and output trays).
- Clean Rollers:
- Use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to wipe the rollers.
- Rotate the rollers manually to clean all surfaces.
5. Perform a Printer Self-Test
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Tools > Printer Status Report.
- Print a self-test page to see if the error persists.
6. Update or Reset Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check for Updates: Ensure the printer's firmware is up to date. Use the HP Smart app or HP website to check for updates.
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, perform a factory reset. Instructions for this vary, so refer to your printer manual
7. Consider a Hardware Issue
If the above steps don’t resolve the issue:
- The paper jam sensor might be faulty.
Refer to this document: HP DeskJet, ENVY 5640, 5660 Printers - 'Paper Jam' Error
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
