HP Smart Tank 6000 series printer

The printer keeps having a paper jam.  I keep removing the paper that is jammed.  No luck.  Another paper gets jammed in the same place.

Hi @Tom16163,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for contacting HP Support. We understand how frustrating it can be when your HP Smart Tank 6001 repeatedly jams paper in the same spot, even after removing the jam. Let's walk through some precise steps to clear the issue and get you printing smoothly again.

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power and turn the printer back on.

This helps reset sensors that may falsely detect a jam.

Step 2: Remove Jammed Paper Thoroughly

  1. Open the ink access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center.
  2. Gently remove any stuck paper by pulling slowly with both hands to avoid tearing.
  3. Check for scraps or small bits of torn paper—use a flashlight if needed.

🔍 Don’t forget to check these key jam areas:

  • Input tray (rear of the printer)
  • Output tray
  • Under the carriage path (look beneath the printhead carriage)
  • Inside the rear access panel (if available)

Step 3: Clean Paper Feed Rollers

Over time, dust or paper fibers on the rollers can cause repeated jams.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Access the rollers from the rear or the input tray area.
  3. Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
  4. Wipe each roller with gentle pressure while turning them manually.
  5. Allow them to dry completely before plugging in the printer again.

Step 4: Load Paper Correctly

  1. Use clean, wrinkle-free paper—standard plain white 20–24 lb. (75–90 gsm) paper works best.
  2. Fan the stack to avoid sticking and align edges evenly.
  3. Load no more than 50 sheets at a time.
  4. Adjust the paper width guides snugly, but not too tightly.

Step 5: Update Firmware

  1. Download the latest firmware for your Smart Tank 6001 here:
    👉 HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support .
  2. Install the update using the on-screen instructions.

Firmware updates often fix mechanical timing or sensor issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
