I'm using HP Deskjet 2700e and last night suddenly the paper stopped going in straight.  It's pulling to the right.

Looking down from the above, there is a little more space in the feeding roller on the right side.  It's Sunday today and I can't get help.  Any helpful input?

Thank you.

Hi @Harmony520

It's great that you're planning to test the printer when you're back, and I'm here to help when you're ready to start the new subscription!

Meanwhile, here are some recommendations and tips for choosing an HP printer with dual trays to make your printing process more efficient and reduce paper waste:

HP Printer Recommendations with Dual Trays

HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 Series:

  • Designed for high productivity with two paper trays.
  • Allows different paper types and sizes to be loaded simultaneously.
  • Features Smart Tasks, which streamline workflows and reduce errors.

HP LaserJet Enterprise Series:

  • Perfect for businesses or heavy-duty printing needs.
  • Offers dual trays and high-capacity options.
  • Provides advanced settings for tray management.

HP ENVY Inspire 7200 Series:

  • A versatile printer that's great for home use.
  • Supports dual trays with easy paper switching and reduced confusion.
  • Compact design while offering high-quality prints.

HP Smart Tank 790 Series:

  • Comes with multiple trays and large ink tanks for cost-efficient printing.
  • Excellent for high-volume and varied paper type tasks.

Features to Look For in Dual-Tray Printers

  • Tray Labels:
    • Look for printers that allow you to label the trays (e.g., Tray 1 for letter paper, Tray 2 for glossy photo paper) in the settings to minimize confusion.
  • Automatic Tray Selection:
    • Opt for models with a feature that automatically selects the correct tray based on the print job.
  • Customizable Defaults:
    • Some printers allow you to set default tray preferences for specific tasks—ideal for minimizing errors.
  • Paper Type Detection:
    • Certain printers detect the paper type loaded in each tray and adjust settings automatically.

Tips to Avoid Tray Confusion

  • Set Defaults in Printer Settings:
    • Use the printer software or control panel to set specific defaults for each tray. For example, assign Tray 1 to plain paper and Tray 2 to specialty paper.
  • Print Preview:
    • Before sending a print job, always check the preview and ensure the correct tray is selected.
  • Color-Coded Stickers:
    • Apply color-coded labels or stickers to the trays to help quickly identify which tray holds which paper type.

Dual-tray printers will save you from switching papers repeatedly and streamline your workflow, and with the right model, they can make a world of difference.

Let me know if you'd like more detailed specs or comparisons for any of the recommended printers! Enjoy your trip and happy printer hunting! 😊

@Harmony520,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Check for Paper Jams & Debris

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Remove any loose paper from the input and output trays.

Open the rear access door (or paper path cover, if applicable) and check for any small bits of torn paper or dust buildup.

Use a flashlight to look inside the paper path and remove anything that might be stuck.

 Clean the Paper Rollers

Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water (avoid alcohol-based cleaners).

Gently wipe the paper feed rollers inside the printer. Roll them manually to clean all sides.

Allow them to dry completely before plugging the printer back in.

Adjust the Paper Guides Properly

Make sure you’re using the correct paper size (A4, Letter, etc.).

When loading paper, align the stack properly and adjust the paper width guides snugly against the edges.

Ensure the paper is not bent, curled, or damaged.

Reset the Printer

Unplug the printer from the power source for at least 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on.

Try printing a test page to see if the issue is resolved.

Perform a Printer Alignment

If the problem persists, go to the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel and run the Align Printer function. This helps correct feeding and print quality issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your input.  I could reach the support desk and she guided me and my partner to troubleshoot.  We did what you instructed but the support person concluded that the machine was dead (I had been using this printer only for 3 years).  I asked her to terminate my subscription because we were leaving out of country soon and won't be back until May.

My partner worked again in the evening and found the substantial black ink stain on one corner.  He cleaned it thoroughly.  We were going to test it when I recalled that I had asked the agent to end my subscription!  I felt so bad for my partner as I wasted his efforts.  I'll call the support desk tomorrow if we can at least test it.  If it works, we don't have to buy a new printer.

I change the paper every time I print shipping label.   I had difficulty in placing the copy paper snugly recently.  I wonder if this happens to other vendor who ship their merchandise daily and change the paper frequently.  Perhaps I should purchase a printer with 2 paper trays.

Hi @Harmony520

It seems like you've had quite the rollercoaster with your printer! It must be frustrating dealing with equipment challenges, especially when you're preparing for a move and relying on the printer for critical tasks like shipping labels.

I'm really impressed by your partner's determination to troubleshoot and clean the printer—it shows teamwork and problem-solving at its finest.

Hopefully, if you reach out to support tomorrow, you can still test the printer without reactivating the subscription unnecessarily.

As for the paper placement issues, it's definitely something that frequent users, like vendors shipping merchandise daily, might encounter.

Regularly switching paper types and adjusting trays can wear out parts or cause alignment issues over time. If this continues to be an issue, investing in a printer with two trays might be a game-changer—it would allow you to dedicate one tray to your shipping labels and another to regular copy paper, saving time and reducing hassle.

You're managing so much at once—shipping, subscription logistics, and an impending move! I hope things smooth out soon for you. Do you want me to help you explore printer options with dual trays, or would you rather troubleshoot tomorrow’s call first?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Thank you very much, Hawks-Eye, for following up.

My partner says since the paper went through smoothly,  he would like to test and see if it prints all right, but he does not want to go lengthy diagnostic procedure again.  So I will get in touch when we come back from our trip to start the new subscription.  And I'd love to get your advice on choosing the machine with 2 trays.  I waste a lot of paper in confusion when I change the paper type, though this confusion may continue in switching the tray...
