Hi @JKirkster,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some print quality issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer after clearing a paper jam. There could be a few reasons for this problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve your print quality.

  • Check Ink Levels: Make sure that your ink cartridges have enough ink to produce clear prints. Low ink levels can result in faded or poor quality prints.
  • Clean Print Heads: Paper jams can sometimes cause ink to clog the print heads. Use your printer's built-in cleaning utility to clean the print heads. This process varies depending on the printer model, but you can usually find it in the printer settings or maintenance menu.
  • Align Print Heads: If the print heads are misaligned, it can lead to blurry or unclear prints. Look for the print head alignment option in your printer's settings and follow the instructions to align the print heads properly.
  • Check for Smudges or Dirt: Inspect the printer's rollers, paper path, and other components for any remaining bits of paper, ink smudges, or dirt. These can affect print quality. Gently clean any visible dirt or debris using a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Use High-Quality Paper: Low-quality or incompatible paper can impact print quality. Make sure you're using the appropriate type and quality of paper for your printer.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can also cause print quality problems. Visit the HP website to ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer model.
  • Perform a Test Print: Many printers have a test print option that can help diagnose print quality issues. Refer to your printer's manual to find out how to perform a test print and use it to check if the issue persists.
  • Run a Print Quality Diagnostic: Some printers offer a diagnostic or maintenance tool that can help identify and fix print quality problems. Look for this option in your printer's settings.
  • Reset Printer Settings: If you've made several changes to settings while troubleshooting, consider resetting your printer's settings to default and reconfigure the necessary options.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
