Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I installed a new imaging unit in my Samsung xPress C460w printer/scanner /copier. I then tried to photocopy a document. All I got out were several pages which were either almost black or dark red. The device then made an awful noise and the message flashed up that there was a paper jam in the exit. I opened up the scanner unit and saw some rather crumpled paper causing the jam. I tried as gently as possible to pull the paper out but it would not budge. It eventually tore to pieces. I opened the rear cover and lowered the frame transfer unit. Tried to pull out the paper as gently as possible. Again, the same result. The paper seems to be jammed rather tightly. Can anyone suggest a way of freeing the paper?
