Hi @vk90,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Smart Tank printer is indicating a paper jam but there doesn't seem to be any paper stuck inside, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Turn off the printer: Start by turning off the printer and unplugging it from the power source. Let it sit for a few minutes before proceeding.
- Check for any obstructions: Carefully inspect the printer's paper path, including the input tray, output tray, and any access doors or covers, for any obstructions such as bits of paper, debris, or foreign objects. Use a flashlight if necessary to get a better view.
- Clear any jammed paper: Even if you can't see any paper, sometimes small shreds or bits of paper can get stuck in the printer's rollers or sensors, triggering a false paper jam error. Gently remove any visible bits of paper using your hands or tweezers, being careful not to tear them and leave any residue behind.
- Reset the printer: After ensuring there are no obstructions or paper bits, plug the printer back in and turn it on. Try resetting the printer by pressing and holding the power button for about 10 seconds until it powers off completely, then release the button and turn it back on.
- Update firmware and drivers: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date by checking the HP support website for any available updates. Similarly, ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer.
- Perform a printer self-test: Many printers have a self-test or diagnostic mode that can help identify issues. Refer to your printer's user manual or the HP support website for instructions on how to perform a self-test.
By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to resolve the false paper jam error on your HP Smart Tank printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
