Hello,
I have a paper jam on my MFP 179, which I can't solve with the help of the HP help pages. The paper has wrapped around the roller, which is visible in the output area. Unfortunately, there are no instructions on how to get to the roller to detach the paper from it.
I am grateful for your help!

Hi @Sos1990,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Dealing with a paper jam that’s wrapped around the roller can be tricky, especially if the paper is tightly wound and not easily accessible. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you remove the paper jam from your HP LaserJet MFP 179:
1. Power Off the Printer
- Press the power button to turn off the printer. This is crucial to avoid any potential damage or injury.
- Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet to ensure the printer is completely powered off.
2. Open All Access Panels
- Open the output tray where you see the paper jam. Check for any paper that might be stuck in this area.
- Open the front access door where the toner cartridges and paper path are located. This may give you better access to the paper jam.
- If your printer has a rear door or panel, open it to access the rear paper path. This is often where paper jams can be more easily reached.
3. Locate and Remove the Paper Jam
- Locate the roller around which the paper is wrapped. The roller is usually cylindrical and may be located near the output area or within the printer.
- Try to carefully and gently unroll or pull the paper from the roller. Avoid tearing the paper as this can leave small pieces inside the printer.
- If the paper is tightly wrapped, you might need to carefully cut or peel away the paper, ensuring that no bits are left behind.:
- Make sure there are no small pieces of paper left inside the printer that could cause future jams.
4. Inspect and Clean the Rollers
- Inspect the roller for any damage or wear. If the roller is damaged, it might need to be replaced.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or a cleaning solution designed for printers to wipe the rollers. Allow the rollers to dry completely before closing the printer.
I hope this helps
Take care and have a good day.
