Hi @Victoriaa01,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer keeps showing a paper jam error even though there’s no visible jam, it’s likely a false paper jam, which can be caused by:

  • Dust or debris on the paper feed rollers.
  • Misaligned or stuck paper sensors.
  • Torn bits of paper deep inside the printer.
  • Firmware glitches.

Step-by-Step Fix for False Paper Jam

1. Power Reset the Printer

This clears false errors from memory.

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord while the printer is still on.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  • Turn it on and try printing again

2. Check All Paper Paths Thoroughly

Even tiny scraps can trigger a jam error.

  • Open all access doors: front, rear, and duplexer (if available).
  • Use a flashlight to inspect rollers and corners.
  • Remove any visible debris or torn paper.
  • Avoid using sharp tools; use fingers or soft tweezers.

3. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

Dust buildup can cause feeding issues.

  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Rotate and clean the rollers gently.
  • Let them dry before closing the printer.

4. Check for Sensor Obstruction

Some HP models have a paper sensor flag that can get stuck.

  • Gently press the sensor flag (usually near the rear rollers).
  • Make sure it moves freely.
  • If it’s stuck, gently nudge it back into position.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
