Hi @Sheltielover ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Officejet 6970 is experiencing a paper feed issue that's mistakenly registering as a paper jam. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check for hidden paper scraps:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Look for any torn pieces of paper or debris that might be stuck in the paper path. You can use a flashlight to help you see better. These small pieces can sometimes cause the printer to think there's a jam even though there isn't.
  • Check the output tray, input tray, and the area around the ink cartridges for hidden paper bits.

2. Clean the paper rollers:

  • Dust and debris buildup on the paper rollers can also hinder paper feed.
  • With the printer still off and unplugged, locate the paper rollers (usually near the input tray).
  • Gently wipe the rollers with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any dirt or debris.

3. Reset the printer:

  • Sometimes a simple reset can clear up glitches that might be causing the paper feed issue.
  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it on.

4. Check paper quality and settings:

  • Make sure you're using high-quality paper that meets the printer's specifications.
  • Check the paper size and type settings in your print job to ensure they match the paper loaded in the tray. Incorrect settings can cause feeding problems.

5. Update printer driver:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
