This piece recently came loose on my HP Laser Jet Pro M402dn printer and I have no idea where it goes (See picture) .  Any one have any guidance?  Also, at the same time, my print has now been jamming and making a strange noise when I attempt to print.  I would assume the two are related.  Any help would be greatly appreciate!

Where did you find this part?  Does it make noise during power on?  Will it feed paper through the manual front tray?  Where do jams occur?  Any part numbers on plastic part?

Lower your manual tray.  Check to see if the manual tray paper adjustment guides move correctly.  This looks similar to the parts used to move those guides

I believe it does have to do with the manual tray, but I'm not sure who to 'lower it' put this back where it belongs 😞

Researching issue.  I will see if I can provide an answer.

Unfortunately, the disassembly of the manual tray is not shown in the service manual.  The cartridge door is replaced as on assembly.  To disassemble the manual tray to reinstall part may not be worth the risk of damaging the cartridge door.  From what I can tell, the broken part is used to adjust the paper guides on the manual tray.  It should not cause jamming or printer noise.  Hard to identify problem from a distance.  Does paper feed from manual tray and cassette?  If paper does not feed, where does the leading edge of paper stop?  Does printer boot up normally?  Can you isolate where noise is coming from?  This is a small printer.  If you are physically able and feel comfortable to perform task, I would remove cassette tray and toner cartridge, turn printer up side down and shake.  Printer may have ingested a broken piece.
