@PamA1,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

This looks like a possible hardware failure with the printer. However, there is no harm in trying to perform an Advanced reset on the printer.

We are going to provide you some additional steps via PM that are specific related to your product model.

Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it. Click here for more details on how to access the private messages on HP Support Community.

If you have tried to reset the printer and still having the issue. I would recommend you contact our HP support team for further assistance.

@Dunc6

I suggest you do a Hard Reset on the printer

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Then, refer to this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6617267/model/6779508/... for 'Photo Tray Problem' Error.

I need help with this issue as well.  The photo tray moves smoothly.  I have removed the input tray and removed the photo tray, reinstalled the input tray and I still get the error.  I tried updating the firmware, and I got the message that it was up to date.  I reinstalled the photo tray and ensured it moved smoothly again.  Still get the error.  I lightly moved/cleaned the small plastic gear that operates the photo tray to ensure it was not binding.  Still get the error.
