Hi @LisAnn1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the issue so clearly. The “Out of Paper” message on your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2800 series—even when paper is loaded—can be caused by a few specific factors.

Here’s a structured approach to resolve it:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. Check Paper Quality and Alignment

  • Remove all paper from the tray.
  • Inspect for bent, wrinkled, or torn sheets—these can prevent proper pickup.
  • Reload a clean stack of paper, making sure:
  • The stack is even and aligned
  • The paper-width guide is snug but not tight
  • The tray is not overloaded

2. Inspect for Obstructions

  • Look inside the paper tray for any foreign objects or debris that may block the rollers.
  • Use a flashlight to check for small fragments of paper or packaging material.

3. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

Dust or paper fibers can accumulate and prevent proper feeding:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Raise the input tray and gently lift the tray shield (do not remove it).
  • Locate the gray paper pick rollers.
  • Use a lightly dampened cotton swab to clean the rollers.
  • Let them dry completely before reconnecting power.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try printing again.

5. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause sensor misreads:

If the issue persists after these steps, the paper sensor may be misaligned or faulty. Let me know if you'd like help checking your exact model number or preparing a service request.

You're clearly doing everything right—let’s make sure your printer gets back to reliable operation.
