Hi @JanellF,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer is designed to handle a variety of media types. When selecting paper for your printer, especially specialized media like brown kraft paper, it is important to refer to the manufacturer's recommendations for media weight to ensure optimal performance.

While specific documentation about the exact maximum paper weight for the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is not provided in the context, general guidance for inkjet printers typically includes:

  • Recommended Paper Weight: Generally, most office inkjet printers like the HP OfficeJet Pro series handle paper weights ranging from 16 lb. to 80 lb. (60 to 300 gsm) without issue.
  • Specialty Papers: For specialty media like kraft paper, ensure that the paper is within the recommended weight range and that the paper type is compatible with inkjet printing technology.

Tips for Printing on Kraft Paper:

  1. Test a Sample: Before printing a large batch, it's wise to test print on a sample sheet to confirm that the printer can handle the paper without causing jams or affecting print quality.
  2. Printer Settings: Adjust the printer settings in the print driver to match the weight and type of paper being used. This can usually be found under "Paper Type" or "Media" settings.
  3. Manual Feed: If the kraft paper is on the thicker side, consider using the manual feed option if available, as this allows for single-sheet printing, reducing the risk of jams.

I hope this helps.
