HI @Hess9550,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand that dealing with printer errors can be frustrating, especially when dealing with limited technical knowledge. Let’s walk through some detailed steps to address the issue with the orange error light and spooling problem on your HP printer. This guide will help you troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue so you can get back to printing.

1. Identify the Error Light

  • Orange Error Light: This light is often an indicator of a problem. The exact nature of the issue can sometimes be found in the printer’s display or by referring to the printer’s manual.

2. Basic Checks

a. Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open Access Panels: Open the front and rear access panels of the printer to check for any paper jams.
  • Remove Paper: Gently remove any jammed paper. Be careful not to tear the paper.

b. Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Open Cartridge Access Door: Open the door where the ink cartridges are located.
  • Check Cartridges: Ensure the cartridges are installed correctly and that none of them are empty or damaged.

3. Clear the Print Queue

a. On Windows:

  • Open Print Queue: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. Right-click your printer and select See what’s printing.
  • Clear Documents: If there are stuck print jobs, select Printer > Cancel All Documents to clear the queue.

b. On Mac:

  • Open Print Queue: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
  • Clear Documents: If there are any pending jobs, click the X next to each job to cancel it.

4. Restart Printer and Computer

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reboot: Restart your computer to ensure there are no software conflicts.

5. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove Device.
  • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the - button to remove its:
  • HP Support Website: Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model. Download and install the latest drivers for your printer.

6. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Download Tool: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.
  • Follow Instructions: The tool will diagnose and attempt to fix common printing issues.

7. Check for Firmware Updates

  • HP Smart App: Use the HP Smart app to check for and install firmware updates.
  • HP Support Website: Alternatively, check the HP Support website for firmware updates for your printer model.

8. Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

  • Access Printer Menu: On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Restore Defaults: Select Restore Defaults or Factory Reset and follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
