HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer

I have an HP Envy 7640 with a message saying there is a paper jam. Went through all the steps given to fix it and message is still there. Even unplugged and replugged the printer to check for a false error message. Anyone have any advice on what to do next?

Hi @Glory15,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer's error message!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check for Hidden Paper & Debris

Even a small piece of paper can trigger the error.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the paper tray, rear access door, and ink cartridge area.
  • Use a flashlight to check for tiny scraps of paper or dust.
  • Roll the paper feed rollers gently to see if anything is stuck.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to wipe the rollers.
  • Dry them completely before turning the printer back on.

Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer from power for at least 2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check the Paper Sensor

  • Sometimes, the paper jam sensor can get stuck or misaligned.
  • Tap the printer lightly on the sides and back to free a stuck sensor.

Update Firmware

  • Download the latest firmware from HP’s support site.
  • Install it and check if the issue resolves.

Try a Hard Reset

If the error persists:

  • On the printer touchscreen, go to:
    • Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults
  • Select Restore Factory Defaults, then restart the printer.

Let me know how it goes.
